If I want to send something over to Photos, I export it from C1 or Luminar and then open it in Photos. I am now careful to keep my RAW files in their own, nice, sensible file structure. ARW from JPEG and eliminate at least SOME of the farting around. The only saving grace is that it DOES maintain the extension, so I can tell. If I want to find a specific photo, I have to go through all 15 folders and look at each preview shot.

My pictures live there, but the file names are complete nonsense - about 28 characters long! - and have nothing to do with the original file name. If I go to the folder that says ”originals” I see a list of subfolders 0-9 and A-F. Instead, you have to go to your pictures folder, right click on “Photos Library.photoslibrary” and select “show package contents”. If you “get info” and copy the file name and paste it into your search bar, nothing. If you right click on a photo, there’s no “show in finder” option, as with many other things. However much people wax on about the power of PP, I can't seem to want to use up too much time on it p)Ĭlick to expand.I was being a bit of a drama queen about Mac holding them hostage, but it’s NOT intuitive or easy to find them. Overall, I think most of this has to do with my being non-committal about giving a lot of time to PP. The other reason was to keep things simple and go with a decent editor that comes free with my computer. I am surprised that you don't like the interface as it seems similar to LR, and I find it fairly intuitive. The reason I went with Photos is that I don't have requirement that a pro has, and wanted to work on something simple that gave me all the basic controls. I have only a few pictures in the Photos app and will soon be transferring those out to my drive(s). I quite dislike this approach of 'Apple knows best,' and of deliberately holding back on what goes on at the back end. I guess one of these days, I will really need to grit my teeth and get into Darktable p)

It's not that I am lazy, but I haven't been able to get rid of the feeling that photography for me has to do with the act of taking pictures, and not so much the editing part. The thing is I can't seem to figure out on my own, and I am not motivated enough to go to tutorials. I have Darktable and it certainly has the looks of a pro editor, meaning that it seems to let me customise just about everything.
